TEHRAN(Bazaar) – Polina Aniftou, Founder of the Iran House in Cyprus and expert on geopolitics, foreign policy and macroeconomics, says: the Western vaccine changes the DNA and is not reliable, while the Russian and Chinese vaccines are more reliable.
Following is the full text of the exclusive interview of Bazaar with Polina Aniftou:
Bazaar: The death number from the Corona virus in the United States and Britain has unfortunately reached new records. However, these two countries are pioneers in the production of vaccines. Why?
Aniftou: USA and UK are two countries that produce, export and advertise medicines and the culture of medicines around the world. The Anglo- Saxon mentality of taking medicines for any reason is that one actually helped to the creation of large dependence of the populations on medicines and pharmacology. Both countries due to their political ties between Trump and Johnson decided to follow a political way how to face the Covid- 19 and how to gain political profit by that, or this is what they thought because Trump lost the elections in USA and the political centered policy he followed led him to his failure. From the other side Johnson will not elected again and the population immunity that let to large deaths did not work.
There is a main policy that both countries applied to face corona, the so called «herd immunity» or «herd effect», «community immunity», «population immunity» or «social immunity». According to this policy that many scientists advised several governments its better a large part of the population to be affected by corona and then a total immunity will be created. So as all the population will pass this illness, then an immunity for the future will be set. Of course, what the UK and USA governments did not count is that at the moment we do not know the body and the behavior of this virus, how it behaves, if there is an immunity, if the virus will be appeared with other elements and if people at any age can undertake to get ill twice or more in a short period. From the other side UK took some measures; Government increased daily tests by over 1,000% during April - from 11,041 on 31 March to 122,347 on 30 April. Teachers have worked with Google to create the Oak National Academy - a virtual school - in just two weeks, delivering 2.2 million lessons in its first week of operation.
USA were trapped into their national system that it is dominated by the insurances and the lack of public health. Homeless people, poor kids, unemployed parents, non- insured families suffered the virus and they could not have treatment and medicines. There is a class war in USA every day, that the system does not support the citizens. If you have no money to pay taxes, you have no existence and opportunity in food, education and health. Thus vast numbers of deaths occurred by these people. We have seen photos and news that poors died on the pavements outside hospitals and they refused entrance.
From the other side the research and science at the universities and the laboratories in these two countries and in countries such as Germany is tremendous after the WWII. The last WW forced the science and the industries to produce medicines for good and bad purposes, technics, develop new technologies and methodologies to cover their loses, to protect population, to supply the army and of course to compete in the global market that due to English language that major countries like Australia, Canada etc speak could have an immediate impact to their sales capacities and create a unified pharmaceutical channel of communication and sales. Unfortunately, this great research that could help the world and USA is for privileged population, in UK they did not use science on the right time and the immunity policy of UK and the incompetency of both health systems let to large deaths, and indeed unexpected numbers.
Bazaar: Despite the many cases in the United States and the United Kingdom and the existence of some reported side effects of the vaccine produced in these countries, can the vaccine produced in these countries be trusted?
Aniftou: The vaccines produced in USA and Europe, and in UK are also in a trial live period, we could say. They received national and European guaranty and approval to be distributed and circulated to countries, but now we will see their real capacity. Joe Biden in his elections campaign said that the Covid vaccination in US will not be mandatory. At the moment there are two vaccines authorized for emergency use in the United States - the Pfizer and Moderna coronavirus vaccines. More vaccines are expected to become available this year as results from phase three trials are published, but Biden shows a mistrust and on January 10 and has said his team will prepare a "much more aggressive effort to get things back on track.” In Europe Pfizer vaccine is the one suggested as it has been produced in Europe and of course for prestige and funding perspective is much exported to European Union countries.
The problem that USA and UK face this period is not only that their alternative policies have failed to face the virus and protect the citizens. We have 385,464 deaths in USA and 81,960 total death until today in UK. The main issue is the political mentality that Trump created in USA and UK of the people that deny the existence of Covid, its danger, the lethal capacity of the virus, the need of people to be protected, the denial to provide social health and access to hospitals to people. This mentality cannot be justified under any scientific theory, there is a political game of Trump towards the health by advancing insurances and letting down people.
My best friend she is a post- doc in chemistry and my cousin a biologist works for a pharmaceutical company in Europe both of them trust that the European and US vaccines have direct and indirect effects to DNA, and they said that will take the Chinese vaccine if they are obligated to. There are many voices in Europe that they request by European Union not to abuse the human rights of its citizens, and people to be free to vaccinate according to their preferences with the vaccine they trust and not by forced to vaccinate with the European or US vaccines. There is a strong anti- wets vaccine campus in European Union, that people do not trust western vaccines and they prefer not to be vaccinated at all or receive mostly the Chinese vaccine.
Bazaar: Due to US sanctions, it is not possible to import drugs for Iran, and even if we accept that drugs are not among the sanctions items, but it is not possible to buy them from companies due to their fear of US sanctions. Meanwhile, the United States has repeatedly stated that it is possible for Iran to purchase the corona vaccine. What is your assessment?
Aniftou: There is no need for any country to buy the vaccines the time that we do not know their side effects, their future effects, their capacity and their immunity tolerance. I was shocked when I saw Israel massively vaccinate people using Pfizer vaccine, today the news we have from Israel is that Israel’s massive vaccine drive isn’t keeping up with new cases, especially among younger victims. So far, almost two million Israelis have had their first shot, out of about 9 million people (excluding Palestinians) and Israel’s hospitals now have a record amount of serious Covid cases came within hours of Israel starting a “second dose” drive. Israel as always has a tendency to give “population loan” to any pharmaceutical case with much failures in all cases.
In the case of Iran I would not buy and start massive vaccinations to Iranian population with USA, EU, UK vaccines that have not reached their perfect modus and none can guarantee any consequences. I have seen the statement of Ayatollah Khamenei that he banned west vaccines and Iran turns to China, Russia and Cuba. Certainly these vaccines are much more secure, already Dubai vaccinated its population with the Chinese one, China has much less loses than any other country due to its centralized health system, and the vaccine is like the one that we take for tetanus vaccine without any implications to DNA.
Bazaar: What is your assessment of the production of corona vaccine in Iran by Iranian scientists?
Aniftou: Iran has a great capacity in research and in science and certainly if Covid- 19 was an easier situation and provided more time, Iran would succeed to face it internally. Due to the large numbers of deaths, the ordinary mentality that we also have in Greece and in Cyprus that we are not used in social distance, let people to cross together and even measures are taken have no good results. Iran needs at least during the production and trails to collaborate with another country that it is advanced in medicine and pharmacology and shares amity and trust such as Cuba, China, Russia. Palestinian Authority requested urgently for the Russian vaccine, Pompeo recently called Cuba as a hub for terrorists. That makes us feel that certainly Cuba is a huge competitor in the market of health and can threat the American market share in the continent.
According to Bloomberg, The U.S. has deals with Pfizer and Moderna Inc., the two companies closest to getting their shots approved by regulators here. But while the U.S. locked up a deal with Pfizer to buy 100 million doses of vaccine for its population of about 330 million, the EU pre-bought 200 million doses for its about 450 million people. The EU also outpaced the U.S. in acquisitions from Johnson & Johnson and a vaccine being developed by Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline Plc. Further on The U.S. ranks 32nd in per-capita vaccine reservations. It is behind the 27 European Union countries that banded together to pre-order vaccines in larger quantities, and sandwiched between Chile and Japan in 31st and 33rd, respectively. If we see the above analysis of Bloomberg the countries that are in hurry to buy vaccines are countries belong to the same political campus with advanced interests in pharmaceuticals and geopolitical ambitions. They follow the same guidelines from banking to capital markets and stock exchanges. In this perspective I would not hurry to buy a vaccine that can turn my population into an experiment, especially the time that if something goes wrong there is no antidote.
