Professor Adib-Moghaddam:Trump and Biden have an equal chance of winning

TEHRAN(Bazaar) - Professor Arshin Adib-Moghaddam, Chair of the Center for Iranian Studies at the London Middle East Institute believes that the most important foreign policy issue for American voters in the presidential election is China and its inevitable ascendancy.

In an exclusive interview with Bazaar, Professor in Global Thought and Comparative Philosophies and Chair of the Center for Iranian Studies at the London Middle East Institute, also adds that Trump and Biden have an equal chance of winning.

Here is the full text of the interview:

Bazaar: What is the most important issue affecting the upcoming US presidential election (Economy; Foreign Policy; Domestic Policy; etc.)?

Adib_Moghaddam: Political science gives us the answer. The most important political factor in any country is the political culture and the institutional system that carries it forward. It is within this framework where everything is interpreted and filtered, Codi-19, foreign policy challenges etc. In the United States, this institutional structure has been dominated in the recent decades by a right-wing ideology that is spreading all over the world. These institutions, for instance the so called Foundation for Defense of Democracies, are incubators of a new form of “liberal fascism”, that has nothing to do with positive freedoms for the individual, the natural right to choose how we want to live, but everything to do with a disciplinary regime of oppression. The traditionally “liberal” hubs, that stand for inclusivity and pluralism which are also permeating the political culture in the United States, are increasingly struggling to compete with the Right-Wing and its global networks.

Bazaar: What is the most important foreign policy issue in the upcoming US presidential election (China; Russia; North Korea; Iran; European Union; etc.)?

Adib_Moghaddam: The most important foreign policy issue is China and its inevitable ascendancy.

Bazaar: What is the most important domestic issue influencing the upcoming US presidential election (Health (Corona); Taxation; Insurance; Salary; etc.)?

Adib_Moghaddam: As it stands it must be Covid-19 which has devastated the country.

Bazaar: Which candidate has the best chance of winning(Trump or Biden)?

Adib_Moghaddam: I give both a 50/50 chance. No one can make a reliable prediction at this stage.
