Rauf: Israel will release more information from to keep Iran’s safeguards issues open

TEHRAN(Bazaar) – Tariq Raouf, former Director General of the Atomic Energy Agency says, Grossi has said that IAEA will deal with the safeguard’s issues on a technical not political basis.

He adds that but even if Iran resolves these issues Israel will release more information from the nuclear archives to keep the safeguards issues open.

Following is the text of the Bazaar interview with Tariq Raouf.

Bazaar: The Vienna talks now require political decisions by Iran and the United States. What do you think is the main issue left?

Rauf: It seems one main sticking point is removal from terrorist list of the IRGC, a non-negotiable demand of the Supreme Leader. But difficult for Biden given domestic and Israeli opposition. Also, Saudi opposition. Now that US wants more Saudi oil on the market to drive down price. Also, US guarantee of sanction relief and commitment to JCPOA after Biden is outstanding.

Bazaar: U.S. Congressmen are seeking to pass legislation that would require congressional approval by the US government to remove the IRGC from the terrorist list. If this happens, what is the Biden government's strategy for it?

Rauf: Yes, this will be a problem for Biden - but depending on language of the legislation Biden may have leeway for temporary over ride?

Bazaar: In an interview with his Hungarian counterpart, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated that significant progress had been made in the negotiations, but that some important issues remained between Iran and the United States. What is your assessment of his words?

Rauf: Shows that Iran wants deal soon, as current government has to deliver to the Iranian public.

Bazaar: Mohammad Eslami, President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, has announced that Iran has sent documents to the International Atomic Energy Agency on March 20, 2022, and they have reviewed them, and IAEA representatives will probably come to Iran to review the materials and review the answers and summarize. Do you think that the dispute between Iran and the IAEA over issues related to Netanyahu's documents will be resolved independently or it will be tied to the result of the JCPOA?

Rauf: Grossi has said that IAEA will deal with the safeguard’s issues on a technical not political basis; but even if Iran resolves these issues Israel will release more information from the nuclear archives to keep the safeguards issues open.
